Sic semper tyrannis
Our Take
This EDC loadout is…unique. It leans heavily into a historical/tactical aesthetic with a strong emphasis on self-reliance and preparedness, but with some unusual choices. The inclusion of a black powder firearm and associated tools (powder measure, ball) immediately sets it apart from typical modern EDC. The overall impression is someone who values both tradition and capability.
Pros
The quality of the visible items appears high. The Microtech Ultratech is a premium automatic knife, known for its reliability and build quality. The light is a solid brass Olight, suggesting a preference for durable, well-made tools. The inclusion of a dedicated writing instrument is always a plus. The wallet and pen, while of unknown origin, are functional necessities. The Philadelphia Derringer, while not a typical EDC item, demonstrates a commitment to self-defense (albeit a very specific and potentially legally complex one).
Suggestions
This loadout is very specialized. While the individual items are good, the overall utility for everyday tasks is limited. The black powder components are niche and require significant knowledge and maintenance. Consider if these items are truly needed on a daily basis, or if they are better suited for a dedicated kit. A more versatile multi-tool might be beneficial, and a more modern self-defense option (depending on local laws) could be considered. A first-aid kit is conspicuously absent. Finally, the loadout lacks any tech beyond the light, which may be a drawback for some users.
